Volunteer Campaign for 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship
On September 30, In Novosibirsk and Omsk the first appeal campaign was launched to find volunteers to assist in the organization and preparation for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship. The event will take place between the 26th of December in 2022 and 5 January 2023 in both Russian cities.
In the course of the celebration the cities also hosted ceremonial opening of art works that were designed with an ice hockey sticks, an open hand that symbolizes the help of volunteers and a pucks that displayed its official logo for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship. An interregional teleconference also organized.
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor for the Novosibirsk Region, Sergei Nelyubov the The Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sport of the Omsk Region, Ivan Kolesnik as well as the executive director of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, Dmitri Kurbatov.
Sergei Nelyubov, on behalf of the Governor of the Novosibirsk Region, greeted and felicitated the participants at the ceremony at the beginning of the application process and said that it was an important step in the preparations for the tournament.
There are 400 volunteers from Omsk and 600 volunteers in Novosibirsk are scheduled to participate in the preparation and hosting in 2023’s IIHF World Junior Championship.
In Novosibirsk the main office for volunteer training will be within the Volunteer Centre for the Novosibirsk Region. The office for Omsk will be located for the region of Omsk will be situated in Omsk’s Siberian State University of Physical Culture and Sport.
Dmitri Kurbatov RIHF chief executive officer: “Volunteers are a vital element of any competition. We need to create a comfortable environment for all teams as well as volunteers. Volunteers will be the first to meet those who are guests of ours at the airport as well as the train station, assist them at the hotel, and also assist them in the arena. The guests who attend our events will leave with impressions from their interactions with volunteers. In many ways volunteers represent us as a face. Art objects symbolize an honest heart, that is waiting to welcome guests.”
Ivan Kolesnik, Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sport of the Omsk Region: “This ceremony signifies that our two regions are in preparation to host the World Junior Championship, which will be held in our cities in 2023. We are building new arenas as well as hotels that are ready for the guests of the tournament. We are awestruck by playing ice hockey in our area and everyone is eagerly anticipating this tournament.”
